Welcome to the 11th Annual Wakefield Doc Fest:
February 7 – March 1

In the year of perfect vision, 20/20! We’re pleased to offer up a rather intensely varied program this year, in a set of four ‘themed’ weekends.

We begin our fest, as always, with ‘All Québec, All the Time,’ showcasing the remarkable vitality of Québec film. Our second weekend, ‘Overdrive,’ celebrates tenacity and perhaps a little of the craziness of the competitive spirit. We turn to ‘The Good Fight’ in weekend three, with films that, in very different ways, chart the battle for truth and justice. And ‘The Play’s the Thing’, our final weekend, offers two exceptional documentaries that have the rich experience of theatre at their core.

As always, we’ll have a lot of ‘value-added’ experiences for our audience, including filmmaker visits in person or by Skype, panel discussions, etc., and, of course, we like to have fun, too! You can expect after-film events in the lobby, usually with delicious food and often with great music.

It’s a small but estimable festival, we think. We hope you do, too.

  • BISBEE '17

Bisbee, Arizona, is an eccentric old mining town a few miles from the Mexican border. In 1917, nearly 2,000 immigrant miners, on strike for better wages and safer working conditions, were violently rounded up by their armed neighbours, herded onto cattle cars, and abandoned in the desert, an event which became known as the Bisbee Deportation. Radically combining documentary, western and musical elements, BISBEE '17 follows locals as they play characters and dramatize historical events in an attempt to reckon with the controversial story of their town's darkest hour.…
